Transport

Public transport

It is vital that students know their way around Bath and your neighbourhood. The more familiar they are with the area the more independent and confident they will be when it comes to using public transport.  Explain bus routes, timetables and bus stops.  With the help of a map show them the major sights of Bath, your location and the school's location.

Bus passes

Bus passes are not automatically included in students’ packages. Those students whose package includes bus passes will have theirs distributed on arrival. Others can purchase weekly bus passes from the school, the bus drivers directly or at the bus station.

Hosts transporting students

Homestay providers must only transport students if they have a valid driving licence, MOT and insurance.  Languages United reserves the right to request to see copies of these documents.

We kindly ask all homestay providers to help students get home safely after certain evening activities and day trips. Details of these occasions are on the student programme link.

When transporting under 18 in your car, please make sure students sit in the back. If you are taking 4 students in your car, make sure the one sitting on the passenger side gets out first.

Taxis

Under 16s must not travel in taxis on their own.

16, 17 year old students can travel in a taxi, providing the service is booked with a reputable company. We suggest Veezu (01225 444444) Students should travel in twos or threes. It is good practice to note the driver's name and licence number as well as registration number. Please inform a member of staff when your students leave in the taxi. If possible, call the students while in the taxi and talk to them until you are satisfied they arrived safely to their destination.

Risk Assessment

All hosts are required to assess the risks of travelling to/from their house and communicate these to the student. For example, where to cross the road safely to get to the bus stop,  poorly lit areas and areas to avoid at night.
