DBS Application Advice
Languages United's Requirements
In order to host under-18s, Languages United requires everyone in the homestay household, who is aged 18 or over, to have had a DBS check and apply for a DBS with home-based position.
As part of this, checks are carried out on all household members (see below).
Languages United must apply for this DBS, existing DBS from other schools cannot be used, and homestay must pay for it.
This check will be considered valid for three years unless a member of the household becomes 18 or another adult joins the household, in which case a new DBS is required.
What is a for Disclosure and Barring Service check with Home Base Position (DBS with HBP)
If you are hosting under 18s you are required to have an enhanced, child workforce DBS check with home base position (HBP). The purpose of this third party check is to allow the police to consider information held not only on yourself, but also on anyone else residing at your address. As the legislation permits disclosure of “any information”, this too may be considered for disclosure on a certificate.
How to apply for a DBS
Languages United will start the DBS application process on your behalf with Civil & Corporate, who process the application and submit it to the DBS.
Complete and submit the Homestay DBS Request Form.
You will receive an email from Civil & Corporate with login details. Log into their site and complete the application details.
If you are applying for a home based position (HBP) DBS that covers the whole household, please ensure that all adults (18+) who live in the household or are regular visitors are included.
Please double-check the information you enter as any typing errors might invalidate the application and result in having to apply/pay again.
You should select Position: Homestay Host (in own home) - children up to 18 years
You should select Job Description: Working with children in a care position (e.g . NANNY/ CARER /HOST/ CHILDMINDER/HOUSEKEEPER/FOSTER CARER etc) up to 18 yrs only - UNSUPERVISED)
Workforce Type should be: Child Workforce
We will be advised when you have completed your details and will check that the ID document information matches the ID we have seen. We will then submit the application for processing.[If we have not already seen your ID documents, you will need to bring these in to the school. Please see the Documents page for a list of acceptable documents]
You will receive an email from Civil & Corporate requesting payment for the application. Please make payment as soon as possible as the application process won't start until they have received it.
The application is processed and appropriate checks are carried out by police and relevant authorities.
On completion of the checks, a paper copy of DBS will be sent to your address by Civil & Corporate.
Languages United will receive a notification of your DBS status. If the DBS is not clear then we may ask you to bring the certificate to the school for us to review.
