In order to host under-18s, the main host contact needs to have an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check with home-based position. This means that the police will perform a background check not only on yourself, but also on anyone associated with the address.
You might already have a DBS but this type of DBS is not transferable and needs to be carried out by Languages United's provider. Also, existing DBS from other schools cannot be used.
Homestay must pay for it and the DBS for home based position will be valid for three years unless a member of the household becomes 18 or another adult joins the household, in which case a new DBS is required.
Please use the following link to apply for hosting students under -18:
Enhanced DBS for Homebased Position Application Form (Under-18s)
The application will go through Languages United's provider - The Personnel Check.
As part of the application, The Personnel Check will validate your IDs, so that Languages United does not need to see them in person. This will also eliminate any possible errors during entering the information.
The payment will be required at the end of your online application and the DBS application process won't start until you have made the payment.
The application is processed and appropriate checks are carried out by police and relevant authorities.
On completion of the checks, a paper copy of DBS will be sent to your address by the Personnel Check to keep for your records.
Languages United will be able to view your DBS status online. If the DBS is not clear then we may ask you to bring the certificate to the school for us to review.
In order to host adults, the main host contact needs to have a Basic DBS check with home-based position. This means that the police will perform a background check not only on yourself, but also on anyone associated with the address.
